Brenda Blankenship enters the studio with a smile, a colorful outfit and her delightful, soprano voice warmly greeting everyone.
Originally from West Virginia, Brenda has spent much of her life in central Ohio, where she now resides. She is a talented artist and works mainly as an illustrator and painter, although she has been known to dabble in collage and sculpture.
She describes her own work as “cartoon-y” and is fearless in her selection of colors, much like her wardrobe. She loves creating portraits of people, adding in small details that others might overlook.
It is this attention to detail that makes her caricatures so fun. Brenda is the proud mother of two sons and they motivate her to keep making art. About creating art Brenda says, “I am not so uptight when I paint. I put all my feelings in my art.”
Brenda has been creating art for over twenty years and continues to be inspired by her favorite artist, Vincent Van Gogh, and favorite author, Edgar Allen Poe. In her spare time Brenda can often be found reading poetry or watching one of her favorite classic horror movies, especially Dracula.
She also loves to shop and is always on the hunt for new accessories for her colorful outfits. Brenda dreams of one day having her incredible artwork on display in a museum like the Columbus Museum of Art.
